This section also contains fact sheets and an interesting and informative narration of two LF elimination programme success stories. Brochures

Neglected tropical diseases: hidden successes, emerging opportunities / Maladies tropicales négligées : succès ignorés, nouvelles opportunités (WHO 2006): A 52-page brochure which looks at neglected tropical diseases, hidden success and empowering oppotunities.
Preventive chemotherapy in human helminthiasis : coordinated use of anthelminthic drugs in control interventions : a manual for health professionals and programme managers (WHO 2006): A 74-page book focussing on how and when a set of low-cost or free drugs should be used in developing countries to control a set of diseases caused by worm infections river blindness (onchocerciasis), elephantiasis (lymphatic filariasis), schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiasis. Significant opportunities also exist to integrate these efforts with the prevention and control of diseases such as trachoma.
You Can Change My Life (GA 2004 brochure): A 16-page booklet summarizing LF, who is helping in the effort to eliminate LF, benefits resulting from the programme, and the next steps. Available in English and French.

Consigning LF to History (GSK 2004 brochure): An attractive brochure produced by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) giving an overview of LF, the elimination strategy and the commitment of GSK to the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.
Extending the Benefits: Preventing and Treating Intestinal Parasites in Children (Emory 2003 brochure): This booklet highlights the research documenting the significant benefits to children of treating intestinal parasites with the same drugs used in the prevention of LF.
Extending the Benefits: Improving the Health of Women and Infants by Treating Intestinal Parasites (Emory 2003 brochure): This booklet highlights the research documenting the significant benefits to women and infants of treating intestinal parasites with the same drugs used in the prevention of LF.
Stop Filariasis Now (Africa WHO 2002 trifold): An advocacy pamphlet aimed at encouraging community members in endemic areas of Africa to adhere to the mass drug administration programme in order to break the transmission cycle and protect future generations from contracting LF.
Stop Filariasis Now (PacELF WHO 2002 trifold): An advocacy pamphlet aimed at encouraging community members in endemic areas of the Pacific region to adhere to the mass drug administration programme in order to break the transmission cycle and protect future generations from contracting LF.
New Hope for People with Lymphedema (CDC 2001 booklet): A booklet for sufferers of LF with lymphoedema of the limbs providing advice on basic hygiene measures and exercise that can help prevent acute attacks and alleviate the condition of the leg.

Country Programme Stories

The Story of Egypt: Documents Egypt's effort to rid itself finally of lymphatic filariasis, an ancient and disfiguring disease. Above all it is the story of a bold national effort combined with unprecedented public-private international cooperation. The LF elimination programme in Egypt faced the daunting challenge of mass drug administration to 2.5 million people over a two-week period every year for five years. Available in English and French.

The Story of Zanzibar: Tells the story of the first year's activities of the LF Elimination Programme in Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania. It portrays the dedication of the many people who were convinced of the importance of the programme and who made the 2001 mass drug administration campaign a success.
