Doris Njomo


Doris is a Social Scientist based at the Eastern and Southern Africa Centre of International Parasite Control (ESACIPAC) based in the Kenya Medical Research Institute.  She has an MA in Sociology with more than 9 years of public health research experience, including working in developing countries with an emphasis on school-based de-worming, health education/promotion and training of teachers and health professionals

Doris developed Kenya’s national school-based de-worming guidelines with support from JICA and also contributed to the development of the Kenya National School Health and Nutrition Policy document and guidelines.  She has been key in programme coordination and advocacy for school-based neglected tropical diseases (NTD) model control programme in Kenya in collaboration with ESACIPAC/JICA, Ministry of Public Health & Sanitation and Ministry of Education.  She has established key partnerships with the Ministries of Education and of Public Health and Sanitation and other stakeholders and has undertaken advocacy and fundraising at local, national and international levels.

Currently Doris is writing up her dissertation for a PhD degree in Public Health entitled “Socio-economic and behavioural factors that influence compliance with mass treatment in the National Programme for the Elimination Lymphatic Filariasis in Kenya”.  The study is funded by WHO/TDR and the African Population and Health Centre in partnership with the International Development Research Centre and Ford Foundation
